Dr. David G. Hamilton
Dr. David G. Hamilton was raised on a mixed dairy farm South of Glenboro, MB. He graduated with great distinction from The Western College of Veterinary Medicine, in Saskatoon, in 1980. In the spring of 1980, David began working at Morden Veterinary Clinic and has been an owner since 1983. Over the years, he had developed a special interest in reproduction and production medicine in dairy and beef cattle. In 1984, David and his wife, Shelley (an Animal Health Technician), began offering Embryo transfer services to clients in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He has had the privilege to offer dairy production medicine services to many excellent dairy clients in Manitoba over the past 35 years and looks forward to continuing to do so. He also provides a full range of services to beef cow-calf producers. A special interest he has developed in the last 15 years is collecting and freezing owners-use-only semen for many producers throughout Manitoba.
David has served on many boards of Directors. This includes; 5 years on the Manitoba Veterinary Services Commission, 8 years on the Western Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners (WCABP) – including a year as president, 6 years representing Western Canada on the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP). He currently serves on the Board of the Canadian Embryo Transfer Association (CETA) for the last 9 years and on the board of Midwest Veterinary Purchasing. In 2000, David was honoured to be awarded the WCABP Bovine Veterinarian of the year.
David and Shelley are also partners with 2 of his brothers and their families in a purebred 500 cow Red and Black Angus operation. Hamco Cattle Co. is located at the farm south of Glenboro, MB. He enjoys helping to manage the large purebred operation as well as practicing what he preaches.
David and Shelley have 2 children, Derek and Julie. Derek is a Chartered Accountant with BDO in the Morden/Winkler area. Julie works alongside her father at the Morden Veterinary Clinic as a small animal veterinarian. In his spare time, David enjoys curling, travelling and cheering on the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers.
