Meet the Veterinarians & Team of Morden Veterinary Clinic in Morden, MB! We’re equipped to help animals large and small, we would be pleased to provide exceptional vet care for your pets.
Dr. David G. Hamilton was raised on a mixed dairy farm South of Glenboro, MB. He graduated with great distinction from The Western College of Veterinary Medicine, in Saskatoon, in 1980. In the spring of 1980, David began working at Morden Veterinary Clinic and has been an owner since 1983. Over the years, he had developed a special interest in reproduction and production medicine in dairy and beef cattle. In 1984, David and his wife, Shelley (an Animal Health Technician), began offering Embryo transfer services to clients in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He has had the privilege to offer dairy production medicine services to many excellent dairy clients in Manitoba over the past 35 years and looks forward to continuing to do so. He also provides a full range of services to beef cow-calf producers. A special interest he has developed in the last 15 years is collecting and freezing owners-use-only semen for many producers throughout Manitoba.
David has served on many boards of Directors. This includes; 5 years on the Manitoba Veterinary Services Commission, 8 years on the Western Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners (WCABP) – including a year as president, 6 years representing Western Canada on the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP). He currently serves on the Board of the Canadian Embryo Transfer Association (CETA) for the last 9 years and on the board of Midwest Veterinary Purchasing. In 2000, David was honoured to be awarded the WCABP Bovine Veterinarian of the year.
David and Shelley are also partners with 2 of his brothers and their families in a purebred 500 cow Red and Black Angus operation. Hamco Cattle Co. is located at the farm south of Glenboro, MB. He enjoys helping to manage the large purebred operation as well as practicing what he preaches.
David and Shelley have 2 children, Derek and Julie. Derek is a Chartered Accountant with BDO in the Morden/Winkler area. Julie works alongside her father at the Morden Veterinary Clinic as a small animal veterinarian. In his spare time, David enjoys curling, travelling and cheering on the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers.
Dr. Rick Wiens grew up on a mixed grain and dairy farm South of Winnipeg in Glenlea, MB. He graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. In 1997 he and Dr. Mariko Boorberg were married and both were hired to work at the Morden Veterinary Clinic, where he is now a part owner. Rick has always had a special interest in dairy medicine and spends most of his working hours with dairy, beef and horses.
Rick and Mariko have been blessed with six children: Ben, Naomi, Anika, Paul, James, and Josh. This makes for a very full home life and little spare time. However, Rick still enjoys teaching Sunday school, coaching cross country skiing, mountain biking, and family canoe expeditions.
Dr. Earl Van Assengrew up on a mixed farm in Neerlandia, AB. He graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. Earl started working at the Morden Veterinary Clinic in 2006 and has been an owner since 2007. Ear l specializes in swine and ovine medicine.
Earl and his Wife Marilyn have 7 Children; Zane, Kirk, Alec, Taryn, Claire, Heidi and Joani. In his spare time he enjoys playing hockey and woodworking.
Dr. Kerri-Rae Millar is a WCVM grad of 2007. Kerri-Rae was raised on a mixed farm near Miami, MB, where she spent many hours working on the grain farm as well as with the cattle (goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, cats). She attended school in Miami and was very involved in the community. Her love for animals, especially cattle, started at a very young age. After many years of being involved in agriculture and showing cattle, becoming a veterinarian was a logical choice as it combined everything she loved. Kerri-Rae has been a mixed animal veterinarian at Morden Veterinary Clinic since graduating in 2007. She spends most of her time working with dairy cattle as well as other large animals, but also enjoys the small animal part of the practice. Kerri-Rae is currently the past-president on the Western Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners, and a director on the Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Lucus, son Max and daughter Kate. She also likes helping out at the family farm, being involved in the community, as well as playing hockey, curling, and spending time outdoors in the beautiful area we get to call home. She is excited to come to work every day both for the animals, as well as for the relationships she has built with the clinic team and many clients.
Dr. Ryan Koetke graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. He joined the Morden Veterinary Clinic in the fall of 2014 after attending the Summer Dairy Institute at Cornell University. Ryan was raised on a beef farm by Camrose, Alberta, where he developed his interest in veterinary medicine and spent a lot of time at several of the local veterinary clinics. Growing up with cattle also peaked his interest in reproductive technology, and provided opportunity to perform artificial insemination and later, embryo transfer with his own cattle. He likes the challenges of working on multiple species, and enjoys getting to know their owners.
Ryan lives on an acreage with his wife Gillian, son Liam, their dog Anna and cat Elsa. In his spare time, he enjoys working around the yard, going to cattle sales and helping out at his parents’ farm whenever he can.
Dr. Mariko Boorberg received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Saskatchewan and her Bachelor of Science from the University of Winnipeg. Mariko lives in Morden with her husband Rick, 6 children and a menagerie of pets. She is actively involved in the classical music community in southern Manitoba and is a jackrabbit coach with the Boundary Trails Nordic Club. In her spare time, she enjoys bird watching, classical music, canoeing, skiing, baking and making healthy meals for her family. Mariko enjoys many species of animals but works more specifically with dogs, cats and birds.
Dr. Shania Jack was born and raised on a beef farm south of Portage La Prairie, MB. Growing up around animals soon sparked her interest in veterinary medicine. This later led her to graduate from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2021. Shania works as a mixed animal veterinarian in both the Morden and Glenboro clinics. She has a special interest in large animal medicine, specifically food animal production. In her spare time, Shania enjoys riding her horse, enjoying the outdoors, and adventuring with her three dogs; Sandy, Lucy, and Marv.
Dr. Tara Frisch grew up on a grain farm near Manitou, MB where she always had horses, dogs, and cats. While volunteering at Pembina Valley Veterinary Clinic in high school, she discovered that veterinary medicine provided the perfect combination of her passions: animals, science, and agriculture. Tara completed her pre-veterinary studies in the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba and went on to graduate from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2021. Tara began her career at the Morden Veterinary Clinic as a mixed-animal practitioner, having special interests in equine practice, bovine practice, and small animal surgery. In her spare time, Tara enjoys playing sports (softball, curling, volleyball), travelling, helping out on the family farm, and riding her horses, Bailey and Monty
Dr. Kate Gardineris a small animal practitioner working mainly out of the Winkler Veterinary Clinic.
Kate grew up on a beef farm in Southern Manitoba. She received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba before graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. Kate has an interest in wellness and internal medicine as well as small animal surgery. She enjoys getting to know each client and their bond with their pets.
Kate shares an acreage with her husband Christian, and their two pets Mia and Toby. In her spare time she enjoys working outside, sports and traveling.
